General planning questions with US and UK program examples. Local property, business and safety requirements must be checked separately.
Separate the office from the installation area
A home office tells you where some administration happens. It does not describe the conditions in which customers' film is installed. Similarly, 'mobile' means travelling to jobs, not automatically working outdoors. CoolVu describes a US home-office model and Global Tint advertises a UK van-based program. Ask each provider to show the exact working setup.
Follow one job through the space
For a proposed vehicle business, picture the customer's arrival, the work itself and collection. For building work, picture carrying the materials to the windows, preparing the area and leaving it ready for use. These are planning exercises: confirm the technical requirements with the actual program and product supplier.
IWFA's installation guides emphasize preparation and cleaning. Use that as a reason to ask how the setup controls dirt and disruption. Avoid an unsupported rule that mobile work is always inferior or that any garage will do.
Questions for a mobile setup
- Where exactly will the work happen at each appointment?
- What information or photographs are needed to judge a site before travelling?
- What conditions cause a job to be moved or postponed, and who informs the customer?
- How are tools and film transported and stored?
- What power, water, lighting or access does the approved workflow require?
- Where can a customer return if a concern needs inspection?
- What is the backup plan if the vehicle or key equipment is unavailable?
Questions for a shop or shared bay
- Does the brand approve the proposed size, layout and shared-use arrangement?
- Can the intended business operate there under the local rules and occupancy terms?
- How will other activities in a shared space affect preparation and installation?
- Can staff safely move around the jobs and store materials without damage?
- What alterations, utilities and signage are needed, and who approves them?
- Is the agreed space available during the hours the operation requires?
Buy equipment against a defined workflow
Request an itemized list divided into required at opening, required for later services, and optional. For each item, record who supplies it, who trains your team, how consumables are replenished and what happens if it fails. Include the ordinary systems for handling inquiries and keeping job details, not only installation tools.
If a plotter is proposed, ask which patterns and software the system uses and what subscriptions or training apply. XPEL offers DAP pattern tools to its dealer network. That example does not establish that every business needs that product or that automated cutting replaces installation skill.
Do not commit on a slogan
Before a lease, vehicle purchase or fit-out decision, resolve the unanswered requirements with the provider and appropriate local advisers. A compact setup may suit one service list and obstruct another. Choose the space around work you can deliver and customers you can realistically serve, rather than treating the lowest headline overhead as the whole decision.
